While most helmets issue nowadays are made of fiberglas, years ago a lot of the guys in my Department as well as in surrounding Fire Departments bought leather Cairns New Yorker helmets to honor our FDNY brothers after September 11th, although unfortunately, I have to sell mine to help my family financially a couple of years later.
